HGTV Dream Home Winner 2016 David Rennie

In 2016, there were around 127 million applicants in the annual getaway pool. David Rennie, who hails from Shelton, Connecticut, was the winner that year.

Before retirement came calling, David worked for the Boy Scouts of America. Unfortunately, Rennie was diagnosed with End Stage Renal Disease. His doctors had to give him a kidney transplant to keep him alive. David’s life changed after this as he had to take things slow from then on.

To stay busy, David and his wife Margaret would spend most of their time watching HGTV. Television host Tiffany Brooks and the rest of the HGTV surprised the couple at their local church.

They revealed that Rennie was the lucky recipient of a fully furnished coastal property in Merritt Island, Florida. Like the other winners before him, David also got $250,000 and a 2016 GMC Acadia Denali.

HGTV had one more surprise in line for David this year. They gave him a beautiful boat, which he could use to sail around the Coast. In total, everything he got amounted to $1.5 million.
