Monty Don Reveals Future of ‘Gardeners’ World’ After Admitting Some Scenes Are Staged

Monty Don has provided an update on the future of BBC’s Gardeners’ World following his admission that some scenes are staged. The beloved presenter, 69, delighted fans by revealing that new episodes of the gardening series are on the way, with filming scheduled to start next week.

Posting a photo of his expansive Herefordshire garden on Instagram, Monty captured a wintry landscape—its moss-covered ground and lingering frost remnants showcasing the season’s transition. Alongside the image, he wrote:

“The Jewel garden—cleared of nearly all last year’s growth, but now featuring the exciting addition of some large, neatly clipped hornbeam balls added yesterday.”

The BBC presenter then surprised fans with an exciting update on Gardeners’ World, revealing: “We will gradually replant it over the coming months and share the process via Gardeners’ World—filming resumes next week!”

The announcement was met with overwhelming enthusiasm, as fans eagerly expressed their excitement for the return of the beloved BBC show.

One thrilled commenter wrote: “Exciting! Thank you for continuing to share your garden with us.”

Another added: “Cannot wait!!”

Meanwhile, a third admirer gushed: “Wow, so exciting—always appreciate your posts, thank you so much!”

Monty Don has previously shared insights into what goes on behind the scenes of the picturesque BBC show, even admitting that some segments are staged for filming purposes.

In an interview with Gardeners’ World magazine, Monty detailed the production process, explaining: “We begin filming the new series in early March, with shoots taking place every Tuesday and Wednesday.”

He revealed that ahead of production meetings, he assesses the garden to determine what will be relevant in a few weeks’ time, ensuring the most visually appealing features are highlighted. “I also compile a list of real-life gardening tasks I need to tackle,” he added, noting that the production team then transforms his rough plan into a structured filming schedule while he briefs his own gardening team.

In a lighthearted admission, Monty shared an example of how certain scenes are recreated, recalling: “Last October, all the leaves had been carefully raked and moved to the leafmould bay, but since we wanted to film the process, I had to scatter them back over the grass to redo the scene for the cameras.”

His comments come amid speculation about his long-term future on Gardeners’ World. However, reassuring fans, Monty told Radio Times: “I never plan beyond two years, but I’ve agreed to do another two.”
